There should be a "check list" of sorts listing questions to ask the leaders of a church "before" you decide to become a member. I was knee deep into the membership process at a local Westminster Presbyterian Church, USA here in Lakeland, FL before I understood they would allow homosexuals into the pulpit to teach the word of God.
Now before you go all “oh no she didn't!” or “who is she to judge?” on me, let me clarify what I stated above by saying that John 3:16 KJV has to be the most well known verse around. So suffice it to say that yes I do love my neighbors in the sense that (1.) I do not wish any harm to come to anyone (2.) I pray for the salvation of all mankind. Knowing that the word of God is being preached throughout the world, and (3.) I pray that anyone [myself included] who is struggling with their own demons, allows the Holy Spirit to guide their heart, mind, soul and body in the way of the Word of God.
There is not one living human being who is not spiritually flawed in some sense. And if you think you are excluded from this, you are kidding only yourself. Because as long as we are in these sinful/flawed bodies, we are sinners. The only way we can be redeemed... Let me repeat that for major emphasis. The only way we can be redeemed from and because of these sinful bodies is to understand and accept the fact that the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as God in human form, was the ultimate blood sacrifice required in order for man to be saved from an eternity of damnation.
Now to get back to my initial statement and its reasoning. Whenever you hear of a preacher or pastor who has been found out and it was said that they were either having an affair or stealing from the church fund, etc, it's expected for that person to step aside and allow someone else in authority to take over from there – until that person is deemed worthy of stepping back into that position of leadership. Yes we all have failed our positions at some point in our lives. [Romans 3:23] Heck, as a child of God myself, I have failed over and over again in some manner that was displeasing to God. BUT! And this is a big but!! But if you turn away from that sin then you are seen in the eyes of God as repentant and therefore forgiven. Now if you continue in the sinful manner, what does that tell anyone you are in the position of leading?
When you decide to change your life and live for God – don't make a 360° change, make a 180º change!
And don't look back ending up like Lot's wife. She looked back because she missed all that she had accumulated while living in Sodom. [Genesis 19:26] Instead of turning away a full 180º from the sinful place, she turned a whole 360º back towards the place the angels to them not to look at. And remember too that when you do turn to look back at a sinful thing, you just might trip yourself up and miss out on a blessing that was right in front of you.

Writing all of this has been rather therapeutic for me – a cleansing of sorts. I know that I need to purge and cleanse my heart, mind, soul and body daily. And I can only do that with the guidance and protection of the Holy Spirit.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen
